Libby's inspiration

During the summer of 2017 Libby Chetwynd from Castle Springs Rangers, Doncaster took part in the County international trip to Sangam, India.

During her visit Libby carried out community work with a charity in Sangam which provides education to local children. Each day a converted single deck bus is driven to a location and the children come to the bus for lessons. Libby helped them to read, made craft items and joined in singing.

This year Libby realised an ambition to do a tandem skydive and on a sunny day in August 2019 she leapt from a plane flying at 10,000 feet. She funded the dive herself but decided to ask friends and family to sponsor her and has raised £400.

Libby has decided to donate all her fundraising to the children’s charity in Sangam in the hope that they will continue to provide a place where the children can continue to come to learn.

 Well done Libby!

Laurel Award for Andrea Scriven

Congratulations to South Yorkshire Vice President Andrea Scriven on receiving the Laurel Award!
Andrea currently lives in Northumberland and was presented with the award on Tuesday evening at a surprise ceremony.
Below is an account from Anthea Goodman who attended the presentation:
We had a lovely evening at Andrea’s Laurel presentation. We  “hid” in a side room while Andrea came into the HQ. Andrea has no idea and was very surprised.  The Laurel Award was presented by Alison Gordon, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding North East England. Allison Graydon, Northumberland County Commissioner presented Andrea with a colourful bouquet of flowers.
We took along a York Minster Rose and plant pot from South Yorkshire Girl Guiding and also personal gifts from ourselves.

There was Judith Staniforth, Sue Loy, Pauline Heminsley and myself from South Yorkshire. Andrea was so very pleased and very much appreciated our attendance and the lovely gifts.  The evening followed with a wonderful buffet .

40 volunteers from South Yorkshire enjoyed a training weekend at Waddow Hall.  We had a fabulous team of trainers in Jan, Ruth Rebecca and the training sessions focused on the new programme with, amongst other activities, volunteers having the opportunity to try out some of the Skills Builder Activities for themselves.  There was also time to share ideas and meet new people and on Saturday evening teams were challenged to crack codes as part of an "Escape Room" style activity!
